Until a week ago, the world's smallest camera was the 1 sq mm Naneye camera. But now, only 7 days later, the Israeli medical firm Medigus based at Tel Aviv showcased the new smallest video camera, of just 0.99mm thickness. The above image (compared with the tip of a pen) says it all, in case we are really confused about what 0.99mm should be like. So, what we see here is truly and adamantly minuscule.

But before you go off to have some romanticized reverie about secret services and spy games, this 'ultra-petite' contraption will actually be used for medical purposes. The first samples of these advanced devices are already in the process of being supplied to doctors of U.S. and Japan, specifically to their gastroenterology, cardiology and gynecology departments.
The camera in itself gives a resolution of around 45,000 pixels, which is actually exponentially less than a mega pixel (1,000,000 pixels). But given the extremely small cross-section and the purpose of its usage, perhaps the consumer related scope of this contraption will be just limited to medical services. Even the designers have made that clear by alluding to the fact that this exclusive device will actually have a very low price. So one has to accept the novelty of such a design, which, though advanced in its conception, can cater to the primal side of human medical conditions.
