Though we don’t pay much heed to rumors, but in Palm’s case we’re dead sure that they are writing their own Linux Operating System.
It’s been two years they’re looking forward to a tailored version of the Linux OS to run on its devices. And why not, when more than 80% of their engineers are software engineers and Palm has been hiring Linux engineers of late and also the job description posted on Palm’s website for a Linux handset engineer confirms it.
As per Cervezas’ resources Palm already had a prototype of a Linux Treo 650. Also if they launch any of the Treo later this year it would run Windows and Palm OS Garnet and you’ll have to wait till next year for the “new operating system’.
So, it’s confirmed now, especially after the launch of ACCESS Linux Platform, which took over the PalmSource, Palm Inc. has to come out with an answer and capture the Asian markets too.
Thanks: Cervezas
