Is Google readying Android alternative to Blackberry Messenger and iMessage?

There has been a wide spread of instant messaging amongst people with the introduction of RIM's Blackberry Messenger and Apple's iMessage. Since Google decided to join the Mobile market with the Android OS, it was taken for granted that it would be only a matter of time before they too came up with their own instant messenger platform to rival Blackberry and Apple.

Knowing Google, it does not look likely that they would keep relying on third party Apps to supply Android's instant messaging service. This makes sense since the way Blackberry and iMessage operates aims at keeping users within their network. This means there can be no cross networking - Blackberry to Blackberry, iMessage to iMessage. Where would that leave Google's Android eventually? Out of the picture! I don't see Google taking this lying down.

As these three giants battle it out, carriers have their own worries as more people prefer to go on these other instant messaging platforms rather than their own messaging service even though it usually means having access to only users on the same platform.

Google has not made any public statement as to whether they are still pursuing the rumored development of their own instant messaging platform. We guess, we can wait patiently to see what unfolds. The odds are however in favor of Google coming out with a platform for Android users in the not too distant future.
