i.play: Electronic gaming redefined, farewell to calories

Posted By: Alpheus Danson | Sep 22 2007

All work and no play can makes Jack a dull boy. However, when the play is predominantly indoors, Jack would have to start watching his weight. A surge of electronic games and ensuing obesity problems have certainly given moms a massive headache. However, they can breathe easy now because the 'solution' for this predicament has been shaped from the 'cause' itself.

Children can now play their favourite electronic games, yet keep their calorie count under check. Playdale has come out with an ingenious concept - the i.play (intelligent play). Simulating a real playground, the i.play unit is a hexagon shaped court with three curved bars. Each of these bars is built with switches for the level of activity required, be it high, low or medium.

The game is basically about activating switches in the fastest possible time. When players receive an audio command, they need to race to the switch that flashes (with the help of an LED). Activation of the switch can be done by pushing, pulling, pressing, spinning, turning, or stamping (did anybody talk about violent gaming!!!).

A player has to complete the game without losing his three lives. A player loses a life when he hits the wrong switch or is too slow to reach it. There are five levels overall.

i.play is solar-powered and can be programmed to suit the player's taste. Number crunchers can also view their game stats whenever they want. And if all these features don't convince you, there is one thing that surely will!! You can win an iPod Shuffle by entering the scores on an online league table.
