Storage Company Iomega has launched an enhanced version of NAS devices that are targeted towards small to medium sized businesses.
The new StorCenter models are designed to give SMBs better performance, reliability and security. The device will be available in models whose capacities will be ranging from 500GB to 1.5TB and will be based on Microsoft’s Windows Storage Server R2 OS.
The main feature of the NAS devices will be the use of SATA-II hot-swappable hard drives with RAID options. Iomega has based the devices on the theory that use of RAID and hot-swappable drives along with some faster hardware will boost the performance of SMBs.
Iomega has also commented that their mission for life is to get SMBs off the tape. They said that many still prefer to use this technology because they are familiar with it and this has worked for them for years. But they think that the technology that has been working for them for years will not surely be used in the future.
