Intel's new mission is to enhance the efficiency of I/O through its new line of Solid State Drives (SSD'S) that are based on the serial ATA (SATA) 3.0 specification. With the SATA 3.0 mechanism the Intel's new 510 series would deliver 6 Gbit/ sec performance. This is the advantage of SATA bus interface which has been deployed in the second generation Intel Core processor platform.

The SSD 510 model is having a read speed of up to 500MBps and 315MBps write speed which according to Intel is twice the speed of current solid state disk drives. To a corporate user or a gaming fanatic the speed would be definitely an advantage. Pete Hazen, Director of Marketing for Intel's NAND solutions said that "The Intel SSD 510 Series helps round out our SSD product line and was specifically designed for applications that require high sequential media transfers.” The product is available in two versions, 250GB which has been priced at $584, and a 120GB version at $284, in 1,000-unit quantities. Intel provides a 3-year warranty with both the devices.
