radio chip

The dial up days are long gone. You hardly hear the word modem these days. This is the age of DSL, cable internet and most importantly the age of Wireless Internet. The ability of accessing the internet on the run is very appealing and those who can afford are switching to WiFi. The three in one radio chip allows users to access WiFi from home and WiMax while on the road.

Yet another aspect of the radio chip is the ability of letting users access the digital TV and on the go. I think that sounds too good to be true. But, the technology is at your doorstep. According to Jeff Hoffman, system architect of the Intel’s Wireless Communication Labs:

there are two many ‘radios’ in the modern hand held devices.

So, keeping efficiency in mind, it’s always a good idea to integrate multiple things together. This way you can have combined purpose chips. When in use, the chip takes up about 79mW of power. This is also energy efficient. Although most of the users would prefer the Wifi/Bluetooth/DVB-H all-in-one chip, this Wifi/WiMax/DVB-H is the closest chip that they will see in a while. Nevertheless, the three in one radio chip does mark a milestone in the world of chips.
