Intel will be releasing a new Quad-Core chip ‘Kentsfield’ on November 1.
This chip is expected to boost the fortunes of Intel, which suffered a setback after AMD released single, and dual core Athlon chips.
The new chip is similar to the 4 x 4 chips by AMD. The Kentsfield has a pair of two Dual-core chips, which are tied together with HyperTransport connection.
Both the cores will have 4MB of L2 Cache, which can be shared between the two cores of the same die but cannot be shared across the dies.
Intel has commented that the new chip will be great for gaming and other multi-threaded applications, like video editing.
