Yesterday I reported about Intel’s Rugged PC rolled out India. Today Intel is showing off more details of the overall program and the system along with pictures.
Intel’s Community PC for rural India melts down all our assumptions that it’s part of the OLPC program, rather this one is quite different, a real rugged and huge one, definitely targeting the needs of rural community as a whole including access to email, pay bills online, banking and simple information surfing.
The tough CPC can function on an alternative power source such as the car battery and is equipped with a removable dust filter and an integrated air fan. The low power consuming system sucks in less than 100 watts of power. Intel is planning to take these Community PC platforms further to be deployed in Internet kiosks.
