intel intros the worlds smallest 4gb solid state drive
Intel has taken the shrinking game to an all-time high when it recently introduced its Intel Z-P140 PATA Solid-State Drive (SSD). The tiny SSD is smaller than a penny and weighs less than a drop of water. The 2GB and 4GB storage devices are the tiniest SSDs to hit the industry.

Inspite of its teeny-weeny size, the Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD boasts of an unbelievable data transfer speed, it offers read speeds of 40 MB/s and write speeds of 30 MB/s. The mini-wonders come with industry standard parallel-ATA (PATA) interface and are aimed at handheld mobile internet devices, digital entertainment and embedded products.

Intel’s Menlow platform for mobile Internet devices is set for a debut in 2008, and hence the Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD can be considered as a prologue to the final act. The other main advantage of the tiny SSD is the low power usage of 300mW in active state and 1.1mW in sleep mode. This is a definite boon for handheld devices where battery life is the most critical aspect.

All in all Intel’s latest SSD definitely has a clear edge over its predecessors.
