Intel gets your kitchen countertop to act as a touchscreen display

I know, not all of us are game at installing computers, tablets et al in our kitchens, the word seems to have reached the concerned labs of Intel. Retrospectively, Intel has come up with a research project that turns almost any surface into a touchscreen – so your countertop in the kitchen is your new touchscreen computer of the future.

‘The project from Intel is utterly simple’ as Beverly Harrison, a senior research scientist at Intel explains. It utilizes a camera and an algorithm to use real-time 3-D object recognition to distinguish and convert anything placed on the counter into virtual, touchscreen-based menu. The project isn’t limited to the kitchen alone; any surface, wood, granite or glass, cluttered or uneven can be transformed into a virtual touchscreen.
