While shopping in a mall we spend too much of time in choosing and trying the products. To avoid such time wastage FaceCake Marketing Technologies has rolled out a virtual dressing room called Swivel at Demo Spring 2011. It is a virtual reality dressing room where the shopper can change and try clothes instantly. At the event, Zugara was another company which showcased another VR marketing tool called Webcam Social Shopper. Like Swivel, Webcam Social Shopper also places the customer into different clothes.

Both the devices are having similar utility, although the overall outcome may be a bit different. Swivel has been made for dressing rooms and uses Kinect motion-sensing camera to sense the customer's body. As soon as a user clicks on a product he can see the image imposed over his body. The user can see himself with the selected product (from the left side of the screen) on a big screen and can also switch between the products. Facecake's Tom Chamberlin said “a user who goes into a dressing room is 70 percent more likely to buy something than one who doesn't. So why not help e-tailers take advantage of that math.
The mechanism of Webcam Social Shopper is a bit simple, here the Mac user selects an option which is digitally placed over his body. There are no downloads required with Webcam Social Shopper as the as it interacts directly with the Mac-based Webcam users. Jack Benoff, Vice President of Product and Marketing, Zugara says that “ The aim is to make shopping more engaging.” Both these virtual reality applications are good at their own place but a lot of improvements are needed in terms of quality. In the coming days more better quality can be expected from the companies.
