Inspiration to try to beat century-old speed record
Speed records don't stay for long as a better machine may break it in a few years but not this record...

The record for the fastest speed on land by a steam-powered car has been intact since January 27, 1906. A car named Locomobile set up the record and the record making speed was 121.659 mph. Since then this record has never been broken.
But after a century, a British team is trying to break the record and register speeds up to 200 mph with a car named Inspiration.
Inspiration is powered by a 300 bhp Curtis Steam engine and the boilers deliver an awesome four megawatts of energy, which can easily power a small town for a day.
In the competition, there will be two drivers. One is Charles Burnett III, who has raced dragsters and powerboats. The other is Annette Getty, general manager of high-tech engineering company, PDS - which manufactured the tubular steel chassis for Inspiration. She has been preparing for the record attempts by driving a high-powered rally car.
