Artificial insect eyes will soon replace compact camera lenses. The innovative eye is inspired by compound eyes of Bees that incorporate thousands of lenses.

The prototype eye carved out of ‘8,500 hexagonal lenses packed into an area the size of a pinhead’ gives impeccable results just like a natural eye, which can later be captured by image sensors analogous to digital cameras. The scope of artificial insect eye is unlimited; if we judge its actual power, however, for now scientists are planning to use it in omni-directional surveillance devices, growing artificial retinas, and high-speed motion sensors too apart from skinny cameras.
