Inkjet printed bioactive paper detects poison easily

Bioweapons have been extensively used by terrorists and anti-social elements over time. Methods have been drafted to counter the toxin war, but expensive and difficult implementation has somehow kept the evil on top. Now, a new method drafted by a team of researchers from McMaster University, Canada, uses an inkjet printer printed paper with toxin-detecting biosensors to detect harmful poisons and other ingredients used as bioterrorism agents.

Using biocompatible silica nanoparticles and special additives, a biocompatible ink is created for the cartridges to be inserted into the inkjet printer. The printed paper with silica traps molecules of the bio-ink and when exposed to toxins these enzymes change color according to the concentration of the toxins included.
