After Indian geniuses surprised the world with a prototype of the cheapest tablet PC that’ll be priced at about $35 (INR 1,500), two student inventors from Orissa, India - Odisha Chandrasekhar Panda & Saswat Swain have developed the i-Webleaf – a Rs.5,000 laptop (approx. $110) . The i-Webleaf laptop isn’t any ordinary laptop scaled down to meet the meager price, instead it’s a laptop stuffed in with a 320GB hard drive, a GB of RAM with 2 USB ports, printer port, a VGA port and Wi-Fi and LAN for connectivity. A result of 10 odd months of rigorous hard work, the i-Webleaf features a 10.2-inch LCD screen and a webcam to bring it at par with the high-end netbooks around.

For processing power – the inventor-duo has designed their own processor for the laptop. Called the DXA 16, the processor they say is good to beat the Intel’s Atom processor all ends down, if we take their claim, then we are certainly looking in for a splendid piece of modern technology sized to meet the pocket of students in India. Panda and Saswat have approached the government in the State to find funding to mass produce the laptops. The engineering duo has also designed a Rs.1300 3G data card for Internet connectivity.
