Personal listening products are designed well and are quite functional but nevertheless have their shortcomings. Sometimes it is difficult to even hear the telephone ring, while wearing the hearing aid. Considering this and other shortcomings, Robert Curtis has designed a personal listener christened ‘Incus’. This could also be used as a home alert by those who have partial deafness and hearing disabilities. The Incus features visual, audible and physical feedback with the help of RGB LEDs, headphone and a vibratory device. Users can control the Incus with the help of a volume controller and alerts can be suspended with the pressing of the screen, as the screen also functions as a dismissal button. One could wear the product on the wrist with the help of a strap and widget. The product strikes a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Robert has no plans of commercializing the product. Designed for a niche market, Robert is looking for feedback and comments so that he can improvise the product further.
