iMac mod: Morning toast with a pinch of Mac!

Posted By: Gagandeep Sharma | Dec 28 2007

There are geeks and there are geeks! The second category includes those who'd rather switch on their systems first than get the breakfast ready. Here's what these people can do: take a broken toaster and an obsolete iMac 233 MHz model (obsolete to say the least) and whoa you get yourself a pretty mod alright!

This is exactly what one Mister Lance Nutter did. He took a no-good Sunbeam Toaster and stuffed in it guts of iMac 233 MHz and got him a nice morning treat tagged i-Toast.

The processing unit looks really pretty stuffed inside the white toaster, but it is the specs that take the cake away. And here they are (no drum rolls, please):

iMac 233 MHz monitor;

4 GB hard drive;

160 Mb of RAM;

Jaguar 10.2.8; and

Power supply in a modified ATX mode, so that the machine powers down and starts up just like a real toaster.

On the flip side, you do have the internet access and a capability to be networked with a PC. Oh, and forgot just one little thing. The optical drives pop out just like in a real toaster. Kudos Nutter, kudos!

P.S.: Sheri (Lance's wife) thinks he's a bit crazy, what with all the modding. Well, I dunno about that. On seconds thought maybe he is a nut case, but a genius one at that.
