We bet you will shun your sleek handsets normally operating at a sluggish 2 GHz after the ‘frozen chip’ running at 500 GHz will seize the machines of the future. Developed by IBM and the Georgia Institute of Technology, the ‘frozen chip’ has broken the silicon speed record by reaching frequencies above 500 GHz, operating at minus 451 degrees Fahrenheit.

It makes the ‘frozen chip’ 250 times faster than the current chips used in mobile handsets. The companies are exploring the speed limits of silicon germanium (SiGe) devices that operate faster at cold temperatures and came out with the latest ultrahigh frequency ‘frozen chip’. The powerful chips could inspire a whole new class of HDTVs, cell phones, automobiles and other devices.
