IBM has improved the power efficiency of its two models and has introduced PowerPC750CL and PowerPC970GX that use up to 50per cent less power than previous models.

Both are single core chip built with 90-nanometer process and reduce DC leakage with thicker gate oxides and reduce AC switching power with higher threshold.
PowerPC750CL is a 32-bit chip with speeds from 400MHz to 1GHz, whereas 970GX is a 32-bit and a 64-bit chip with speeds ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 GHz. The 750CL has 256KB of L2 cache while the 970GX has 1MB of cache.
This reduced energy consumption makes it ideal for consumer's electronics and other embedded applications. IBM already has a strong hold in game console market with Xbox360 and Nintendo Wii both using Power PC processor.
The Playstation 3 will use IBM's cell processor. The power PC 750CL and 970GX both are readily available in the market.
