iphone_Y2EZR_3342The world of gadgetry can be demarcated, not without dispute though, into two broad periods: the pre- and post iPhone eras. Prior to the launch of the revolutionary iPhone, a ‘band’ essentially comprised state-of-the-art synthesizers, lark-throated vocalists, nimble-fingered instrumentalists and a ‘musical’ name. With Apple’s pathbreaking gadget, six fingers are all you need. Quite appropriately named, the iBand has rewritten record books by converting their three iPhones into a guitar, keyboard and a set of drums. The Viennese trio have registered over 2.8 million visits on YouTube by performing (err...rolling their fingers over the touchscreens) and recording their first music video - ‘Life is greater than the internet.’ Some of the credit, undoubtedly, must go to the creators of the iPhone for taking user interactivity to dizzying heights.

The iBand has had its own share of difficulties in synchronizing the phones with their notes. The lack of nuances, especially in the case of classical music or jazz, was too conspicuous to be ignored. The resultant sound, often, was the same for different genres, thus limiting the band’s creativity. Practice, though, did solve most of their issues and has earned them (deserving? yeah!) a ticket to the University of Melbourne, where they would perform live for the first time. Great going, guys!
