It’s not often that we see modifications in the GDDR5 chips. But with the Hynix’s announcement of the industry's first 2Gb (gigabit) GDDR5 chips based on the 40nm manufacturing process technology, we can guess that its only severe changes that makers prefer. The newly developed chips targeted towards PCs and game consoles, boast processing power of up to 28GB/s with a 32-bit I/O with about 7Gb/s of speed. 2Gb chips to be mass produced in the second half of 2010 are designed purposely to minimize upon the power consumption which they can efficiently manage with operation voltage of 1.35V, thus reducing consumption by almost 20% in comparison to the previous 50nm technology based chips.
