A new hybrid atom, which is half man-made and half natural has been discovered by scientists which could help in the development of quantum computers. The dream of building a quantum computer, which has been a dream of many scientists, might turn into reality finally. Scientists at the Purdue University feel that in spite of the enormous development in the field of computers, nothing much has changed, as a computer still processes information in bits and in binaries, which could change after the laws of quantum physics are applied, resulting in computers being able to process information in quantum bits, or qubits. The key to building a quantum computer lies in the ability to control the occupancy of the quantum states, control the location of the electron in the new artificial atom resulting in the ability to control the quantum state with an externally applied electrical field. Shocking as it may seem, once quantum computers are in place, they may communicate with other across solar systems, and the possibilities are endless. The new findings make it possible to manipulate the state of an atom.
