HOWTO: Build your own DVR
Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Apr 12 2006
Adam Pash doesn't seem too enthusiastic about TiVo and went ahead with this DIY project to save money, utilize his time and whet his appetite for something unique.

With his own digital video recorder (DVR) Pash aims not only to harness all features of the TiVo but also to get the most out of it, ultimately taking the DVR beyond TiVo. All you need is a TV capture card and DVR software. Pash goes for the Hauppauge PVR-150, for video encoding and selected SageTV with Windows/Linux support as the software. However, it's easy to install the software, as our aim is to go beyond TiVo some tricks and tweaks are really needed.
