How To: Run Windows or Mac OS X desktop interface on your iPad

Posted By: Gaurav Sood | Apr 10 2010

When initially iPad was launched, it was blamed of being short on some aspects that rendered it a bit non-appealing to the gadget freak community. However I always knew that iPad apps in the Apple App Store would balance the equation back in iPad’s favor. Remember initially when the iPhone was launched, some deemed its future to be bleak with the lack of blue-tooth and camera. So far I have reviewed apps that make iPad irresistible, and Desktop Connect by Antecea Inc. (purchase price $11.99) fits right in the category. Desktop Connect lets you view and control Windows, Mac OS X or Linux desktop right from your iPad.

The sole app in the App Store that automatically discovers computers on any local network, with full support for VNC and Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDP). And for those who were complaining about the lack of flash support on iPad, Desktop Connect enables you to view websites with Adobe Flash.

Desktop Connect has full support for Windows XP( Professional), Windows 7 (Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate), Windows Vista (Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate) and Mac OS X(Leopard, Snow Leopard).

# Minor glitches with Desktop Connect

• Moving the mouse is a bit of a problem as you have to slide your finger on the screen to guide the mouse.

The Shift key is sticky and you have to turn it off after turning it on.

• Icons for the keyboard invocation, Function key invocation, etc. are a little crude.

Other than these few minor short-comings the Desktop Connect iPad is worth every penny, and as for these glitches they should be fixed in the next update of Desktop Connect app.
