Will O'Brien is here with a simple looking but a bit knotty DIY soldering iron, but if it's under $20, you won't mind bearing it. All you need is a Radio-Shack de-soldering Iron that will cost you around $10, a small fish tank air pump for around $7, six to eight feet of vinyl fish tank air hose for $1, and de-soldering braid or steel wool.

The idea has been surfacing on the net since long (loads of thanks to all of them including gideontech, usbmicro and dansworkshop) and inspired by those various methods are incorporated by polishing the older ones to make this new one, which as Will claims will not melt the hose. Just follow the instructions and your soldering iron will be ready within few hours.
