Even now if you’ve not realized the fact that our poor planet is running out of black gold, it’s not too late to collect some sawdust and wood chips to make your own bio-oil.
This thick black liquid can turn out to be the best alternative for replacing many petroleum products, as Sean Captain reports. Any organic material, including agricultural and forest waste like corn stalks and scraps of bark can be used to make bio-oil through pyrolysis that can be processed into higher-value fuels and chemicals.
Under pyrolysis, the crushed organic materials are heated at 400 to 500 degrees Celsius in the absence of oxygen to get the condensed bio-oil. The residual gas and carbon-rich soot called “char,” can also be used as fuel. And you’ll not believe, as per researchers, it’s much better than petroleum.
