HOW TO beat data corruption on your CDs

Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Mar 25 2006

If you've ever faced a problem with respect to loss of data on your CD or your CD simply not working, here're a few ways you can ensure their longevity.

First is the quality, which directly affects the data stored on it. A high quality branded CD will nurture your data for a couple of years or more whereas a low class unbranded one will give way within a year or so. If you want to store your data for a longer period of time, go for the former or keep on rotating the data onto newer media in the latter case.

Next is handling. All CDs demand feather handling, disrespect of their quality. Never scribble on its label with a ball point pen and avoid fingerprints on the side. Store them in their packs when not in use and always use CD labels and stick them onto the disc. Clean them regularly with lint-free cloth delicately. You can even wash them, don't scrub, and dry using a lint-free material.

Follow these and enjoy thy cheap data vault.
