With safety turning out to be the most important criterion in vehicle design, manufacturers are adopting various new measures to roll out super-safe cars. Impact testing is a critical element in this exercise. Honda had earlier used pedestrian dummies to conduct crash tests and study the eventuality of an accident. However, these models were inadequate in replicating the actual kinematics involved. Now, the manufacturer has created POLAR III, a third generation pedestrian dummy that would aid in better analysis of vehicle-pedestrian collisions.
What’s Innovative: POLAR III is more advanced than its predecessors due to the fact that it offers better replication of injuries to lower back and upper leg areas. The effectiveness of the dummy has vastly improved in terms of structure flexibility and ligament model reproduction.
Watch This: Any technology that aids in vehicle safety is a blessing. We believe the POLAR III will go a long way in simulating accident scenarios, thereby allowing manufacturers to design safer cars.
