An experimental model of a walking assist device for the elderly and people with weakened leg muscles will be showcased by Honda at the upcoming Trade Fair on Barrier Free Equipments & Rehabilitation for the Elderly & the Disable(BARRIER FREE 2008). The cooperative control technology used in the design has been derived from Honda’s experience with getting its now-famous advanced humanoid robot ASIMO to walk. The walking assist is primarily aimed at providing better rehabilitation support for people with weakened leg muscles, though its usage in making the elderly less dependent on caretakers for their daily movements might make it more attractive to that section of the population. Honda walking assist device will be showcased for delegates at the BARRIER FRE 2008 to be held in Intex Osaka, Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27, 2008.
