Honda’s new Walking Assist device is an exoskeleton with Bodyweight Support System
Technology is pushing us from all sides, and with each passing second we get closer to a more intelligent world filled with dimensional machines and objects. After the walking assist device for elders, Honda Motor Co. Ltd has made official its second experimental walking assist – this one, to support bodyweight in order to reduce the load generated on the legs in different course of walking. This exoskeleton with bodyweight support system weighs 6.5kgs, runs on lithium-ion battery with 2 hrs backup. and just like the previous one, is apart from those regular strength boosting exoskeletons out there.

What’s innovative:
This new walking assist device, with the bodyweight support system, fits the body shape in such a way that the load which is transferred to the hips joint, knees and the ankle is well absorbed by it. The device in totality consists of a seat, a frame – attached from the seat to the embedded pair of shoes. Wearing it is easy, the user only needs to put on the pair of shoes and lift up the seat to the most comfortable position, all without having to fasten a support belt around the waist.
Watch this:
With this Honda developed walking assist device even the physically challenged could someday hope to arrive at the joy of mobility. The bodyweight support system of the device, with the seat and the frame follows the body and leg movement, directing the assisting force towards the user’s center of gravity – enabling the device to provide ideally natural assistance in all postures and movements. Honda now wishes to start testing the device in the real world conditions, so that it is made available at the earliest.
