The latest trend in Boston is installing efficient furnaces that can generate electricity.
The CHPs or 'micro combined heat and power units' convert natural gas into hot water and generate electricity up to $800 in a year.
Such systems are capable of producing 1KW of electricity but some bigger systems are capable of producing around 4KW of electricity.
Such systems are commercially available in Japan and Europe and will hit the U.S. markets next month.
