Hitachi ships the speediest Ultrastar C10K600 hard drive

Hitachi GST has started shipping its fastest and the most power-efficient Ultrastar C10K600 hard drive. The hard drive boasts of delivering up to 15 percent better random and 18 percent faster sequential performance than the ones lying on the market shelves today. The 2.5-inch hard drive with 10,000RPM spinning speed and 6Gb/s SCSI SAS interface usage offers different storage capacities - 300GB, 450GB and 600GB. Hitachi claims that the hard drive needs 22 percent less power for operation as compared to other readily available options. It requires just 5.6 watts of power during read/write and a mere 3.1 watts of power when idle. No word yet on pricing, but you can expect it to come with a hefty price tag.
