Hitachi’s new gesture-based interface for TVs, med gadgets and more

It’s been a while now that we first heard of Hitachi developing a gesture based TV. There is no real info on what’s happening there, but we have Hitachi displaying a new interface prototype that could pave way for such a TV. Video shows that using gesture an user can play around with the interface, where getting the hand near to the surface you can zoom into the content and similarly by pulling that hand back the user can zoom out. There are various other hand movements that the interface can detect for commands.

It is reported that besides getting the technology into computers and TVs, Hitachi may include it into digital signage and med gadgets to simplify things for doctors and medics who have the hands occupied with instruments and cannot do anything but gesture out their requirements. Hitachi could have the interface working in products towards the middle of next year.
