Hitachi-Maxell to present first generation 300 GB holographic media

Holographic media will bring great advancement in storage technology with its immense storage capacity and data transfer speed.

Hitachi-Maxell is planning to demonstrate their new 300GB holographic CD's this week. This new storage media is good for large data backups with a storage capacity of 300GB and high data transfer rate of 20MB/s. However, to buy and operate these CD's you have to through a handsome amount that will surely cut your pockets.

Company plans even more media with greater storage up to 1.6TB by 2010.

It's expected that one holographic disc will cost somewhere between $100 and $125, and the optical drive that will be able to operate them will go up to $15,000.
