Hitachi-LG unveils world's first SSD-embedded Optical Drive

In pursuit of developing one of its kind Optical Disc Drive, Hitachi-LG has unveiled the world’s first SSD-enabled laptop optical drive. Dubbed the HyDrive, the optical drive-SSD combo is a step to boost notebook or PC storage without requirement of more space. These radical HyDrives besides the SSD storage will be able to read and write to CDs and DVDs as well. The first generation HyDrive that will come in 32GB or 64GB capacities, will be offered on future EeeTop nettops from Asus and the HyDrive will debut globally inside the Asus N61DA notebook.” The company promises the new version of the HyDrive to be provided with 256GB of SSD storage.
