Fresco Microchip Inc. presented a low-power, single-chip demodulator for universal analog terrestrial (NTSC, PAL, SECAM), analog cable, and DVB-T digital television broadcasts, which offers broad reception coverage too.

Reaching closer to the peak of quality integration, FM2050 includes both the SAW filter and programmable gain amplifier functionality. It has been made simpler with enhanced digital and analog broadcast performance by integrating universal analog video and audio demodulation, digital video demodulation and IF processing into a single IC.

The device requires a 48-pin QFN package that will need external 1.2-V and 3.3-V power supplies to deliver low-power operation at 500 mW. It is worth considering if one desires for high-quality reception for DTV via CAN tuners. To make it compatible with PC and portable TV, it requires a silicon tuner that fits the low-power and small footprint requirements for applications. It's compliant with free-to-air international analog demodulation broadcast standards.

FM2050 is efficient enough to generate digital MPEG streams and analog CVBS video with SIF via commonly available tuners in market and also supports all modes of the DVB-T standard.
