InPhase Technologies have developed a unique computer disc that stores up to 60 times more data than a DVD itself.

The discs use the Tapestry holographic memory technology to store data. The discs can also read and write data, 10 times faster than a normal DVD.

InPhase Technologies has formed an alliance with Hitachi/Maxell to market and sell the discs.

With this technology, the disc can store more than 26 hours of video which records at a rate of 160Mbps. The Tapestry system uses light from a single laser split into two beams. The hologram is formed where these two beams intersect in the recording medium.

The discs are 13cm in diameter and a little wider and thicker than conventional DVDs.
