Finally, a piece of furniture that reflects how we will be charging our gadgets in the office of the future. High-end furniture maker Herman Miller, in its approach to cut down the mounting annoyance of gadget muddle has licensed Fulton Innovation’s eCoupled technology , a system that fends off the need for dedicated chargers and is embedding the technology in desks.

The proposed desk will charge anything including your cellphones and iPod, thanks to the power transfer through a magnetic field that will charge anything in contact. Well, wireless charging has been around for a while and we need to sit back to see whether the Herman Miller’s ‘desk of the future’ gets the apt feedback.

A desk equipped with eCoupled would save money on adapters too, says Jim Lynch, director of the Association of Professional Office Managers who will recommend the desk to his 8000 members. Anyway, the company hasn’t commented on its pricing or availability. Technology is moving at an express pace. Who knows what the future may bring?
