Looks like the geeks are on a ROBO-Spree. We earlier spoke about Murasaki, robotic replica of Japanese folklore and now it’s the Heart Robot. Not a piece of beauty, it doesn’t add a milestone to the history of robots so far. A robot-dedicated event, EmotiBots, is where we this novelty was spotted. The brains at University of the West of England have scooped this electronic puppet which, apparently, reacts to movement, touch and response. To me this seems to be a skinny child with dog-like ears. His heart is signified by a red light beneath a translucent plastic diaphragm; it beats a little faster as one grips his shoulder. On display of affection, the robot showed signs of composure with his heart beat slowing down, lowered eyelids and relaxed breathing.
It needs human support to move around. The tall claims of being able to emote like human doesn’t seem to be justified. I mean, come on, anger and love are not the only ways through which we guys emote. He cant stand by himself so his maker, David McGoran, a puppeteer turned robotics engineer, does the needful. Quite a thing for the naughty bunch of kids to fidget with.
