Among the many eye-catching virtual gadgets and technologies on display this year at the 19th 3D & Virtual Reality Expo in Japan, the one that stood out was the Immersive Digital Entertainment VR system designed and created by Crescent. 360 degree VR platform comes with a kind of a square, pillow-like-headgear, which needs to be strapped on one’s head and face, in such a way that a person disappears into it from the neck upwards. This head-mounted display promises its users something which most VR systems don't, and that is a full 360 degree experience of virtual space, or a kind of an immersion into virtual space.

Apart from this, the Immersive Digital Entertainment VR system also comes loaded with certain other state-of-the features such as an image analysis technology, super high definition motion capture cameras and lastly the Virtools real-time rendering technology. All of these come together to provide the user a kind of a 3D reality wherein they can capture all their movements, such as shaking hands and grasping items, in virtual real time.
Content developer and visual effects director for the Final Fantasy movie, Takahiko Akiyama of 4D Brain, points out that various industries such as medicine and entertainment are already drawing plans to co-opt this kind of virtual reality, wherein a person can actually enter into a 360 degree virtual room. He goes on to say that while this kind of an experience has already been seen on TV and in numerous sci-fi movies, what is needed is a kind of an entertainment system in which people can actually enter and become part of this virtual world. Talking about the future possible uses of this Immersive Digital Entertainment VR system, he says,
If a new device were combined with this system the images could be made to change rapidly depending on what the user is thinking, so it could be used for relaxation or for biofeedback, as the user could see changes in the image depending on what the user is thinking, and then feel changes in himself. That would be more than a simple game, it would be a new type of entertainment, which is why we wanted to call it Immersive Digital Entertainment. For the uninitiated, this 3D& Virtual Reality Expo is considered to be Japan's largest exhibition, attracting all kinds of vendors and users of cutting-edge 3D technology and other such super high definition image technologies.
