HDBaseT alliance was formed to promote the technology with the same name, as it would enable single LAN cable to replace multiple cables and connectors in homes, which means it would be an all in one solution for all your entertainment needs. It is optimized for video application. It provides 5play convergence of full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals, consequently connecting all the entertainment devices at home. It would also carry signals over standard Cat 5e/6 Ethernet network cables. Its networking prowess would allow the DVRs and HTPCs to output video to any TV in the house. It is being hoped that it might replace HDMI as HD video standard.
