Hauppauge is the latest to launch an HD PVR, one that they tout to be the high performing and cheep amongst its competitors. The HD PVR captures high-def video from cable or satellite and stores it on the PC. The best thing about Hauppauge’s launch is that their model is cheaper than most. It’s available for a mere $249.
Hauppauge is the worldwide leading developer and manufacturer of analog and digital video, TV and data broadcast receiver products for personal computers, with an estimated worldwide installed base of over 2.5 million. Their products allow PC users to watch television on their PC screens, video-conference and create both still, video and digital videos and images. WinTV, their flagship product is the leading branded TV card in the retail market.
For those who are new to HD PVR it is a USB-enabled device that connects to any high-def cable or satellite box. It can record HD into the H.264 AVC format. Software installed on the device allows for playback on a PC.
You can also use it to make AVCHD recordings, which is the format used on Blu-ray players. The recordings, however, can be made onto a traditional DVD disc. Hauppauge claims that the device can record about two hours of Blu-ray content on a 4.7GB DVD.
Sadly, there are no product photos yet; however, the HD PVR will be available sometime in Q1 2008.
