It was just a while back we featured a piece about the Solar Sound. We appreciated what we saw then, and days later Oliver Mitchell kindly sent us one of these Bluetooth solar-powered speakers to check out the thing ourselves, and we set out to break it outrightly. For short, it’s a smart system for all green, travelling audiophiles. For long, it is a lot we have, so read on...
The Solar Sound comes packed neatly with a cool carry pouch, an AC/DC plug with an USB charging cable and a 3.5mm plug-in wire to connect the system to your music device in case you don’t want to benefit from the Bluetooth connectivity.

Coming from the house of leading independent consumer technology company, Devotec Industries, the solar powered wireless Bluetooth stereo speaker is touted to be the first of its kind in the world. Being highly portable, the Solar Sound is a pioneer in compact stereo speakers that integrate Bluetooth with solar-power battery support. Along with this the sleek body of the Solar Sound bears a touchscreen interface on the frame, which include controls for volume, forward, rewind, a microphone slot and an LED light to indicate charging and playback rhythm.

Being an avid traveler myself, I have really appreciated what I have got from the Solar Sound, with respect to connectivity. Getting the Bluetooth hocked up with any compatible music player or a phone is utterly simple. So, when on the move, in the pool or whether driving you have sufficient volume and stereo sound quality music playing besides. Yes, the 2 x 2W speakers on the either side of the rectangular shaped speaker system may not be good enough for all, but the playback capability is still worth mentioning.

Coming to the embedded environmental genius, the speaker features a 150mA solar panel on the top of the system, which accumulates sun’s energy in the built in Lithium-Ion 1500mAh battery. After five odd hours of charging from the built-on 150mA solar panel, the device worked great for more than 5 hours of music at a decent volume. I guess that’s great for a day’s trip.

While Solar Sound is made compatible with all major cellphones, including the Nokias, BlackBerries and the iPhones, the speaker also come with a 3.5mm retractable headphone cable that allows the user to use it as a conventional speaker system. One meter compatibility diameter for the Bluetooth connectivity was what I thought can be bettered for more flexible and distance oriented music pleasure. Rest, I conclude the speaker system is a must have, and we have enjoyed every bit of our experience with the Solar Sound – a great travel gadget I say.
