A Handmade multimedia device in Mali
Posted By: Jaiyant Cavale | Aug 1 2008
Mamadou Coulibaly has set up a strange looking computer, which has attracted a lot of attention in the capital of Mali, Bamako. The handmade computer box is an offline distributor of online multimedia material and gives information such as articles from wikipedia and also music. The goal of Mr. Coulibaly is to provide people with access to educational and cultural material to those who can't afford. The idea is to provide low cost, local Internet connections that bypass Internet cafes and act as a distribution node for dynamic information available on the net. This might just work in Africa where the need for information is high but the infrastructure cannot support the demands and needs of the people.
