Hacking your iPhone 3.0 through the use of unauthorized software, known as Jailbreaking, may get you in serious troubles. The biggest problem with Jailbreaking is that, your instant messages are randomly sent to strange iPhones.

This was the case with some iPhone users, who were complaining about their instant messages being broadcasted to other iPhones. The fault occurs through AOL Instant Messenger’s push feature in the Hacked and unlocked iPhones. Apple’s security layer uses SSL certificates to validate the client with the service, in order to ensure secured push message delivery.

Push Notification Service (PNS) in iPhone is based on XMPP Publish-Subscribe. Whenever the phone needs to register to Apple’s PNS server, for safe transaction, it self-generates a private and public key pair certificate. This pair works as an identity proof like user name and password. Jailbreaking removes these security barriers and leads to the alleged problems. It was a matter of concern for the iPhone makers, but now they know it’s not an inherent problem. Apple can have a sigh of relief now.
