For those of you who roll a mouse for over 7 hours and end up with sore wrists, there is some heartening news. The traditional mouse will now go ‘aerial’. The state-of-the-art gyro-based mouse will rely on freespace movements and gestures to empower users with the most advanced control system. In layman terms, you just need to wave your mouse in the air to perform an action, which could either be a click or a scroll. Gyration’s innovation is called GO PRO Gyrotransport and comes with 1GB of storage. The embedded USB transreceiver acts as the communicator to aerially establish a connection between the mouse and the PC. A Cypress Semiconductor CY7C68033 USB NAND flash controller facilitates memory usability as well as controls the USB and memory interfaces. The space mouse is driven by a Texas Instruments’ MSP430F1232 mixed-signal MCU with 8KB+256B of flash memory and 256 RAM bytes. The wireless communication is carried out on a 2.4GHz link, and the Cypress’ CYWUSB6953 is responsible for 50% of this task.
Since wireless is the latest fad, it makes little sense for tech-savvy blokes to retain their cumbersome roller globes. And with a price tag of $150, it doesn’t pinch to be air-borne, yeah?
