Researchers at EPFL’s Laboratory of Intelligent Systems have got robots into a new level of intelligence and skill. We’ve seen robots that can jump distances in the past, and we also saw a robot made to fly, however combining the two – like true peculiarity of a grasshopper — the researchers have developed a grasshopper-like robot that has a pair of wings to fly.

Made in carbon with Mylar covering, the Microglider, as they call it, with the controllable wings steers itself toward light. Though the robot’s body isn’t really made to work together with its wings for the moment, the researchers are working to get the robot to glide and jump to reach far off distances in short times. Combining the advantages of robotic legs with the ability to fly, I think we have a whole new kind of robots about to invade us. Check out the video below.
