A France-based robotics company, Gostai, has amazed us with the launched its line of telepresence robots - the Jazz robots. The Jazz robots include Jazz Connect for telepresence, Jazz Icon for branding & events and Jazz Security for surveillance. Standing at a 1 meter tall, with no LCD screen (like seen in other telepresence robots) the three are available for sale starting at 7900€ (approx. $10,400) for the Jazz Connect, Jazz Icon is also available for rental starting at 1800€ (approx. $2,400), while the Jazz Security costs 8400€ (approx. $11,000) and for the surveillance benefits has a camera that can see in the dark.

Jazz robots have been very uniquely created to run on Gostai's Urbi open-source robot operating system and are thus capable of using GostaiNet cloud computing infrastructure. Based on the latter, the Jazz robots are able to make cloud-based video recordings. The Jazz robot driven by a web-based remote control interface has a head that can be moved in any direction and besides using Wi-Fi (like other telepresence robots) also connects to a 3G network for better facility. The Jazz Security robot can patrol on its own and can also avoid obstacles, thanks to the lasers it is equipped with. It does its own mapping in real-time therefore the user only needs to pinpoint places you want it to go to on the map. The map can be seen on the web interface you connect to, to use the robot.
