If this piece of news coming from ‘Down Under’ is indeed true, then the face of web access might be changed forever on the planet. This is not to say that I question the authenticity of the claim, but just the mere fact that this news is so exciting that I almost can’t believe that it is true. My sense of disbelief stems from the fact that the this new invention is so huge and also to a small extent from the fact that I am not really much of a tech geek and so never saw something like this coming. But then, how many of you out there can claim that you saw this coming? The guys at Melbourne University have officially introduced their new invention, the GiFi. The chip was demonstrated recently transmitting 5-gigabits per second of data wirelessly within 10 meters range. This means that you can have 5Gbps wireless net connection around the house at all time. That is really cool and it does not even end there. The icing on this digital cake is that these people have fabricated this functional chip at a price of mere $10! Yup, that’s right. The 5Gbps wireless chip costs almost next to nothing compared to how much you spend on normal hardware.
The other impressive part of this GiFi chip is its small antenna which is tiny and only consumes 2-watts of power and measures around one millimeter in width. So basically it will cost you a bare minimum in both the making price of this wonder chip and also very little while using it. You won’t even have a problem of trying to fit it in hard and that means that it would be easily be a part of the sleek modern devices. Now all one can do is wait and hope that the commercial version of the chip is out soon.
